StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN) [+Free], HCI Appliance (HCA), Virtual HCI Appliance (VHCA) [+Free] • Installation Types and VVOLs

While researching Starwind VSAN, I've had trouble determining exactly which versions of VSAN include VVOLs. I'm not sure if it's because of old documentation still floating around in search engines or people being imprecise about their messaging.

It seems that the Windows version used to be the only bare metal install and now there's a Linux-based ISO you can install, but I never saw any announcement or explanation of different features.

So when I look up which versions include VVOLs, I know that the Windows version DOES support VVOLs and the Linux VM DOES NOT, but I have no idea about the Linux ISO.

One other question - descriptions of the Windows version say that it is installed on a Hyper-V host without clarifying if that's just for hyperconverged configurations or if there is some dependency on Hyper-V even if you don't plan to run VMs on the same physical server.

So which versions provide VVOLs functionality and is Hyper-V required for the Windows version of you aren't running VMs in the same computer?
